Professor Ieuan Ellis

I joined the Executive Team of Staffordshire University in January 2017 as Pro Vice Chancellor. My role involves leadership of our University partnerships with employers, education providers and community partners across the Region and overseas. My first 15 months have provided me with fantastic opportunities to network across the Region and to get to know people and places across the City of Stoke on Trent and the County of Staffordshire.

After qualifying as a chartered physiotherapist in Cardiff, I initially worked in the NHS before moving into a lecturer role at Northumbria University. I have held various leadership roles in Universities for the last 30 years and I am a Professor in Healthcare Education.

I am a former international runner competing at Commonwealth, European and World level. I represented Wales at cross country, on the track (5,000m and 10,000am) and finished 7th for Wales in the 1986 Commonwealth Games marathon. I finished 8th in the London Marathon and represented Great Britain several times at marathon, achieving a personal best time of 2 hours 13 minutes.

I retired from competitive athletics 16 years ago but now aged 57 I still try and maintain a good level of basic fitness through running and occasional weekend cycle rides in the Cheviot Hills of Northumberland which is my family home.

I am married with four grown up children aged 28, 27, 23 and 22.
