Professor Liz BarnesProfessor Liz Barnes was appointed Vice-Chancellor of Staffordshire University and came to post on April 1, 2016.
She was previously Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Sheffield Hallam University and Derby University.
Originally from Stafford, Professor Barnes started her career as a PE and Maths teacher in Stoke-on-Trent. She completed her MMedSci at Sheffield University and subsequently taught physiology at Teesside University where she introduced sport science. Whilst at Teesside, she also led the development of technology enhanced learning and internationalisation across the university. She was appointed as the first University Teaching Fellow in 1998 and later became Dean of Social Sciences and Law.
Professor Barnes’ career has been built on her passion for teaching and interests in employer engagement and technology-enhanced learning. She is a Trustee of Jisc and has previously been a Quality Assurance Agency (QAA) auditor and Chair of the charity Safe and Sound Derby.
Passionate about young people and their education and life chances, Liz is a member of 4 multi-academy Trusts and Co-Chair of the Stoke on Trent Opportunity Area Board.
She is married to Chris, with two daughters, Samantha and Rebecca, and lives in Abbots Bromley.
