I first visited The Donna Louise during my time as a midfielder at Stoke City and my first impression was how happy the kids were. The atmosphere, surroundings and staff are top class, considering the unfortunate situations the kids and their families are having to deal with.

I was honoured to become a Donna Louise Champion in 2009 and since then, I’ve been fundraising for them along with my wife, Helen. I’ve done quite a few bike rides for them including John O’Groats to Land’s End and Coast-to-Coast. I’m now coaching the U21 players at Derby and have never stopped supporting The Donna Louise. I was disappointed to have to pull out of Tower to Tower back in 2015, so when I got the chance to take part this time, I couldn’t turn it down. I know what Helen went through on Tower to Tower and I’m not looking forward to going through the same on the rowing leg of the journey. But, the Mrs did it last time, so I can’t say no!
